Eric R. Mehler is the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of U.S. Embassy Banjul. Prior to joining the mission in Banjul, he served as DCM in the U.S. Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea from August 2020-August 2022 and as Political-Military Affairs Chief in Ankara, Turkey from 2017-2020. From 2015-2017, he was the Deputy Director for the Office of Afghanistan Affairs within the office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mr. Mehler has also served at U.S. missions in NATO, Nicaragua, Spain, and Afghanistan.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Mehler served as a volunteer in Laos and El Salvador, and worked for seven years in a boutique consulting firm that offered sales and marketing strategy services to high-tech sector clients, reaching the position of Vice President for Business Development. He holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and is married and has one daughter.
