Embassy Marks BHM with Speaker on Role of Peaceful Protest

The U.S. Embassy Banjul’s Public Diplomacy section organized on February 21 a speaker event that explored the role of peaceful protest in societal change.  The Africa Regional Services (ARS) expert speaker, Elizabeth Milovidov, engaged the YALI RLC- Gambia Chapter alumni in a lively session during which participants examined the different approaches adopted by the United States and The Gambia in effecting a change.  Gambian participants extensively shared the country’s most recent experiences, especially how peaceful protest reinforced democratic change following a tense political standoff in 2016/17.  Participants also discussed the vital need to promoting civic awareness and inclusivity in order to strengthen Gambia’s new found democracy.
