Gambia April-May Polls: Ambassador Calls for Strengthened Civic Education

Ambassador C. Patricia Alsup

United States Ambassador to The Gambia, C. Patricia Alsup has called on young Gambians to continue engaging the grassroots on the importance of voting, and on their responsibilities as citizens in a democracy.  The Ambassador said with local government elections approaching in April and May, this will be critical.

“At the U.S. Embassy, we were inspired by your actions before, during and after the 2016 elections.  We noted your intensive online and offline election campaigns; from voter registration, and voting, to your outspoken demands that the democratic will of the people should prevail,” Ambassador Alsup told a group of young Gambians at an event marking the first anniversary of a U.S. Embassy WhatsApp-inspired organization, ‘For The Gambia First.’
