U.S. Embassy Banjul’s Public Affairs Officer, Janel Heird, congratulated two young Gambian students for being awarded MasterCard Foundation Scholarships. Nyimansata Damba Danjo, a former member of U.S. Embassy Banjul’s Competitive College Clubs (CCC), and Michael Habeeb Oluwatosin, are pursuing their undergraduate programs at Michigan State University (MSU).
On August 8, PAO Heird held a pre-departure orientation for one of the young scholars, Nyimansata. Ms. Danjo hails from Basse, a far-flung rural community where she attended her secondary education at the Nasir Senior Secondary School, a CCC school. She will pursue Medicine at MSU.
During the PDO, the PAO explained U.S. laws, cultural differences, customs, weather, and the general social settings of Michigan State. She also provided tips on travelling, documentation, arrivals etc.
The MasterCard Foundation Scholarship is a comprehensive package and one of the biggest private scholarship programs for African youth.
