PD-funded Mayoral Debate Receives Accolades

Public Diplomacy Banjul has partnered with a Mandela Washington Fellowship alumnus to organize mayoral candidate debates ahead of Local Government Elections on May 12. The first debate for the Kanifing Municipality featured five aspiring mayoral candidates who outlined their plans and programs to a packed town hall audience. The candidates fiercely debated the best solutions to tackle municipal waste problems, a modernized revenue and tax collection system, and infrastructure improvements. The debate was broadcast live on radio, TV and streamed on Facebook to reach a wider audience. These debates support democracy, political discourse, and civic engagement in The Gambia in line with the Mission’s core goals.
