Public Diplomacy Banjul on April 6 offered its American Corners as a Media Hub for coverage and reporting during The Gambia’s 2017 National Assembly Elections. About 20 local and international journalists exclusively used the space on Thursday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The initiative was part of efforts to promote freedom of the press, and support The Gambia’s free, fair and transparent election process. Journalists used the space to receive reports from the field, write and file stories. In addition to free use of the Corner’s equipment and facilities, members of the press also brought along their own electronic equipment.
This was the second time the Embassy created a media hub for journalists; the first being during Gambia’s 2016 Presidential Elections.
